Winter HOLIDAYS IN THE Bregenzerwald
An unrivalled opportunity to experience all the ski areas in the Bregenzerwald, the Lech valley and the Gross Walsertal combined
Cross-country ski fans will find a selection of excellently groomed circuits, and winter walkers can enjoy well prepared tracks which involve little or no special equipment. Guided snow-shoe walks are also offered, whilst an evening descent on a flood-lit toboggan run is a very special experience.
VariETY FOR SKIERS
From easy blue runs right through to challenging black ones, the Bregenzerwald ski areas have something to satisfy skiers of all standards. An abundance of natural snow guarantees unrivalled ski conditions. With the opening of the Mellaubahn cable car last winter, the trip from Mellau to the ski area has been considerably shortened. A cable car also connects Warth-Schröcken with the Arlberg ski region which, thanks to the introduction of further new lifts, now qualifies as the largest interconnected ski area in Austria.
The largest ski areas in the neighbourhood, such as the Mellau-Damüls and the Diedamskopf ski areas, are just a few minutes’ ride away. The Andelsbuch-Bezau ski area is also within easy reach.n.

Damüls-Mellau ski area
This extensive ski area, designated “top class” by the leading international ski comparison site www.skiresort.de, is accessible from two separate villages. Mellau enjoys a valley location, whilst Damüls is situated at an altitude of 1,432 metres. Skiers will appreciate the imposing panorama and the virtually unlimited expanse of ski slopes, which offers a good balance between sunny south-facing pistes and the reliably good snow cover of north-facing slopes.
The dependable snow conditions experienced in Damüls since 2005 have resulted in the village earning the title of “snowiest permanently inhabited settlement in the world”. The fact that the ski runs start and finish in the heart of the village has increased its popularity. A further drawcard in Damüls is the multi-facetted Burton Snowpark, which offers snowboarders all the facilities they could possibly wish for. As from last winter, the Mellaubahn cable car offers an increased standard of comfort: the 10-man gondola whisks skiers from Mellau to the ski area in next to no time.
Diedamskopf ski area
Au-Schoppernau and the Diedamskopf ski area are well-known for the fabulous mountain views, the innovative winter sports school with its children’s adventure park, and the brilliant facilities for snowboarders. Close to the top station of the cable car lies the Diedamspark, supervised on a daily basis and professionally serviced by QParks.
In the complex snowboarders and free skiers of all standards can find a selection of rails, boxes and kickers to suit their needs. The facilities are being continually upgraded and extended. NEW since last winter are a Fun Slope with tunnel; steep curves, waves and jumps, as well as a ski movie run, where anyone can video their own personal race, watch it on www.skiline.cc and subsequently download it.
VariETY OFF-PISTE
The Kanisfluh Berghaus is not only a great starting point for skiers heading for the slopes, it is also ideal for off-piste activities, as well as for guests wanting to enjoy winter walking, cross-country skiing or even visiting a local museum. There is really something here for absolutely everyone and every taste.
Winter walking in Mellau
Walking through a winter wonderland brings a very special kind of enjoyment. The well-defined winter footpaths have pink markers and are easy to see in the snow. They offer a selection of walks and strolls of between one and four hours in duration.
Other great activities
If you prefer to enjoy winter away from the ski runs, you will find plenty here to keep you occupied. Maybe a toboggan evening with the family, a free-riding jaunt or a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh – take your pick and prepare to be amazed!
